Rachel Edwards, President

  Rachel is a founder of Genesee Land Trust, member of the Board from 1990 until 2003, serving in various capacities including president, vice president and active member of the public information committee. She returned to the board in 2008. As current president, Rachel serves on the Executive, Marketing, Urban Initiative and Special Events Committees. A skilled photographer, designer, copy writer, with a professional background in communications and marketing, she has coordinated promotions for Lumiere Photo and partnered in a business start up - Museum Print Editions. Rachel has served on the Mendon Town Board and has participated in other not-for-profit organizations such as Writers & Books and the Genesee Center for the Arts. Other activities include working with the Widewaters Community Garden and urban agriculture policy research. A long time resident of Honoeye Falls, Rachel and her family now live in the city of Rochester.
   
Jeffrey E. Hough, Vice President
  Jeff is Vice President of Client Relations for Forte Capital working with families, businesses and non-profits in the areas of asset allocation and investment, portfolio analysis, corporate and individual retirement plans, endowment management and charitable giving. Beginning his financial career in the 1980s where he held a number of roles in senior management. More recently he served as Vice President of Development and Communications at the Rochester Area Community Foundation working in planned giving and outreach to financial and legal advisors. Jeff is Secretary of the Board for the Association of Fundraising Professionals, Genesee Chapter and serves on the Membership Committee of the Financial Planning Association of Upstate New York. At Genesee Land Trust, Jeff serves on the Development Committee. Jeff earned his Bachelors degree in Political Science from College of Wooster (OH). He and his wife, Marlea Allan, live in Honeoye Falls with their four children and enjoy kayaking, fishing, hiking and camping throughout Upstate New York.
     
Merri-Lou McKeever, Secretary
 

Merri-Lou grew up on a farm in the open spaces of Chautauqua County, NY, learning to treasure that environment from an early age. Currently a city-dweller, Merri-Lou is retired from management of the worldwide presentation technologies group at Eastman Kodak Company. Concern over the expansion of urban sprawl has brought her to the Genesee Land Trust.

Merri-Lou is also an active volunteer at the Humane Society at Lollypop Farm and the Rochester Animal Services, believing strongly that "all things are connected." She also volunteers at Hope Hall School, is a member of the Rochester Audio Visual Association, and is Secretary/Treasurer of the Alfred Alumni Concert Choir. For the Trust, she serves on the Executive and Urban committees.

 
Michael Kehoe, Treasurer
  A Mobil Chemical Company employee for 21 years, Mike's accounting and financial management positions took him to New York and Houston as well as the Rochester area. He served as Director of Finance for Nixon Peabody for 14 years until his retirement in 2001. President of the Rochester Chapter of The Financial Executives International, Mike has done volunteer work for LifeSpan and the Pittsford Trails Project. Mike is also a member of the finance counsel of his church. For the Trust, Mike serves on the Finance and Steering Committees.
     
Cenie Cafarelli    
  Cenie is a recently retired pediatrician and 40 year Brighton resident. A Genesee Land Trust member since 1992, she is a lifelong, passionate conservationist, advocate for land preservation, backpacker, gardener, and trail maintenance worker.   Cenie has also been a Sierra club member since the early 1960s, currently excom member and treasurer of the RRG of the Sierra Club and an Adirondack Mountain Club member. Additionally, she is a volunteer pediatrician at St. Joseph's Neighborhood Center and supporter for the  out-of-doors for children's and adult's  physical health and emotional development.  For the Trust, Cenie serves on the Land Management Committee, Backyard Habitat Tour Committee and volunteers for special events.
     
Erin D. Caldwell    
 

Erin D. Caldwell Erin is Assistant Director of Regional Marketing and Communications at the American Red Cross and is also a marketing adjunct at Roberts Wesleyan College in Rochester.  Caldwell lives in West Bloomfield and is particularly interested in sustainable development, promoting local small businesses and community-based living. At Genesee Land Trust, Caldwell serves on the Marketing Committee.

 
Diane Cass
 

Diane has been a Science Librarian at the University of Rochester’s Carlson Science and Engineering Library for 25 years. She learned to value good stewardship of the land while working beside her father on the family’s dairy farm in Vermont. Relocating to Western New York 30 years ago, she treasured the farms in the Genesee Valley and the forests in the Finger Lakes. Noticing the spreading suburban development in the early 1990’s, she joined the Genesee Land Trust and soon became a member of the Board. Diane is co-chair of the Land Protection Committee. She also serves on the Farmland Initiative and Land Management Committees as well as volunteering for fund-raising activities.

     
Roger Cass

 

Roger is a physician in private practice of Internal Medicine, Clinical Professor of Medicine at U of R. He is a co-founder of several environmental organizations, such as Save Our Space, Federation of Monroe County Environmentalists, and Genesee Land Trust. Honored by the Monroe County Legislature for outstanding dedication to the environment, Roger is a dedicated conservationist as well as a birder,musician, photographer and sailor. At the Trust, Roger is Co-Chair of the Land Protection Committee and also serves on the Land Management, Nominating Committees and the North Coast and the Farmland Initiatives.

     
Jill M.Cicero    
 

Jill is a graduate of Cornell Law School and Colgate University, whose practice is concentrated in the areas of estate planning and administration, preparation of Wills and trusts, estate and gift tax planning. Selected by her peers as one of the Best Lawyers in America, in the area of trusts and estates, for the years 2001 through 2012, and included in New York Super Lawyers for 2007 through 2011, she is a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel.  Jill is the recipient of the New York State Bar Association’s 2009 Attorney Professionalism Award, which recognizes a member of the Association who displays the highest standards of professionalism in service to clients, outstanding ethical conduct, commitment to promoting respect for the legal system in the pursuit of justice and the public good, competence, good judgment, integrity and civility. Jill has also served on the boards of several other professional and community organizations and is a Past President of the Foundation of the Monroe County Bar and is currently Immediate Past Chair of the Board of Directors for the Rochester Area Community Foundation. Jill resides in Mendon with her husband, Paul MacAulay, and daughter, Claire. 

     
Connie Ehindero    
  An active Trust volunteer since the 1990s, Connie has helped to coordinate direct mailings and has steered events like the Backyard Habitat Tour. A Brighton resident, Connie is Production Manager for the Sigma Marketing Group. She has also owned Parallel Print, serving national direct mail clients. At the Trust, Connie has chaired the Membership Committee and served on the Steering and Special Events committees. She coordinated the Strategic Land Conservation Committee. Other volunteer interests include: Friends of Sandy Pond Beach, Calvary St. Andrews, and board member of the Greater Rochester Postal Customer Council. Connie is both a visual artist and environmentalist.
     
Udo Fehn    
 

Udo is a Professor Emeritus of Geological Sciences, University of Rochester.  He is a native of Germany, where he received his education (Ph.D. in physics), before coming to the USA as a research fellow at Harvard University.  In 1980, he joined the faculty in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at the UR, serving in later years as director of Environmental Programs and Chair of the Department, before his retirement in 2010.  He is interested in environmental issues and sustainability, concerning the education of the broader public and the development and implementation of new policies in these fields.

     
Scott Forsyth    
 

Scott Forsyth, is a self-employed attorney with his brother, George. Forsyth & Forsyth is a family firm that was established 115 years ago, and protects the legal interests of families in Monroe, Wayne, Ontario, and Livingston Counties. Scott is the past chair of the Monroe County Bar Association Trusts & Estates Section, and is a member of the Monroe, New York. and Florida Bar Associations. At Genesee Land Trust, Scott serves on the Land Acquisition and North Coast committees.

     
Tom Frey    
  When Tom decided to retire from Harris, Beach LLP in 1996, he committed his newly freed time and energy to several volunteer interests, including land conservation with Genesee Land Trust. In addition to his legal career, Tom has been active in local politics from the city school board in 1969 to Monroe County Executive from 1987 to 1991. Tom is a former president of Genesee Land Trust and an active member of the Steering and Land Protection Committees. He spearheaded the El Camino and Conkey Corner Park projects, being deeply committed to the Trust's Urban Initiative. Tom's other activities include volunteering for St. Michael's Church, Campaign for Fiscal Equity Board, and the American Civil Liberties Union.
     
Erin Grant    
 

Erin Grant is the Director of Marketing and Communications for Planned Parenthood of the Rochester/Syracuse Region. Erin's professional work has been dedicated to Rochester's non-profit community. She began her career at the Memorial Art Gallery and went on to work in marketing for the University of Rochester Medical Center. A passion for preservation led Erin to the Genesee Land Trust. Whether it is preserving cultural assets, healthcare access or open space, Erin has a deep commitment to ensuring that the resources enjoyed today are available well into the future.At Genesee Land Trust, Erin serves on the Marketing and Newsletter Committees as well as volunteering for special events.

     
Allen Handelman

  Alan grew up exploring the gullies that feed into Ellison Park. After a
sixteen year sojourn in New York City, he returned to Rochester. Allen
played a leadership role in the establishment of Corbett's Glen Nature
Park. He has been involved in civics, real estate and construction for
over 30 years. Currently, he is a Project Director at Conifer Realty
responsible for the development of affordable housing. In addition to
trying to make the world a better place, he spends a fair amount of time
on a squash court and at a bridge table. At the Trust, Alan serves on the Land Management and the Urban Initiative Committees.
     
Robert Kraus
  A native New Yorker, Robert Kraus has lived for more than 25 years in Rush with his family and various animals. In that town, he has been active in farmland preservation discussions and served for a long period of time on the library board. He recently retired as Associate Vice President at the University of Rochester. Robert has been a member of Genesee Land Trust since 1989 and was elected to the board of directors beginning in 1992. Currently he is active on the Executive, Nominating, Land Management and the Farmland Initiative Committees.
     
Veronica Lee    
 

Roni is the CEO of a family owned business and mother of 2 adult children.  Leading the gypsy life of a traveler is her passion as is reading but she is still resisting the Kindle and  IPad.  Gardening is a rising  interest and she has a lifelong devotion to meeting the special needs of women and children.  Contributing  to the work of the Genesee Land Trust reflects her love of the out-of-doors, hiking , geology and history.  Prior to joining her husband a year ago in the business venture, Roni’s 20+ year administrative careers were in senior roles at Highland Hospital, Strong Health and most recently at Gilda’s Club as the Executive Director.  Underpinning her career and interests include undergraduate and graduate degrees in a variety of areas including Business/Finance, Sociology, Art History with a concentration in Northern Italian Renaissance Art. At Genesee Land Trust, Roni serves on the North Coast Initiative Committee, Alasa Farms, and other ad hoc committees.

     
Jean H. McCreary
 

Jean is a partner in the Energy & Environment practice of Nixon Peabody, an international law firm with over 800 attorneys.  For the past decade she served as chair of that practice group, and concentrates her practice in the environmental aspects of real estate and corporate transactions, hazardous waste site investigations and cleanups, environmental compliance and enforcement and supporting toxic tort and Superfund litigation.  Jean is also a Certified Professional Environmental Auditor.  She has been a member of the Genesee Land Trust board since approximately 2000, and currently serves on its executive committee and co-chairs the North Coast initiative.

     
George Parker
  George, a non-profit community development attorney with a long history of interest in preserving open spaces and in construction of affordable housing, joined the Trust board with great enthusiasm. George has served for six years on the wetlands committee of the local chapter of the Sierra Club, and he is a nine year member of the Forum on Affordable Housing and Community Development Law of the American Bar Association. At the Trust, he serves on the Land Protection, Development and Habitat Bridges Initiative Committees.
     
Tom Riley    
  Retired president of T.P.R. Associates, Tom Riley formerly led the Irving Place Capital and Development Corporation. Additionally Tom was an Associate Vice President of the University of Rochester and President and CEO of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Rochester. Strongly committed to community involvement, Tom has chaired and served on numerous boards including: Charlotte Community Development Corp, City Newspaper, Coordinated Care Services, Inc.,  Eastman Dental Center, Park Ridge Hospital, Rochester Area Community Foundation, Rochester City Planning Commission, Rochester Downtown Development Corp, St. Ann's Community, Inc., Security Trust/Northstar/Fleet Bank, United Way of Rochester and the Unity Health System & Foundation. At Genesee Land Trust, Tom serves on the Leadership Outreach Committee and the North Coast Initiative Committe.
     
Bill Schwappacher    
  Bill has been active in various organizations including past president of the Webster Chamber of Commerce, a trustee of the Webster Library and the Housing Opportunities, Inc. He has served on numerous non-profit boards over the last 30 years. Bill is Vice President of Investments for Morgan Stanley with 26 years of providing investment analysis and advisory service.  Along with his wife, Janis, Bill resides on a mini-farm in Webster, and enjoys the glory of flower and fruit/vegetable gardening. Since serving on the Webster Master Plan Committee in the 90's, he has been keenly interested in open space and wildlife habitat issues. At Genesee Land Trust, Bill will serve on the North Coast Initiative and Development Committees.
     
Thomas Tette
  Tom is a Partner with the accounting firm of Allied Financial Partners. Formerly treasurer of the Genesee Land Trust, Inc., he has been a member since 1999. Tom is married to Maria and they have three children: Tommy, Anthony and Lizzie. As a father, Tom is concerned about the quality of life for all children and has a real interest in helping to prevent unnecessary development of land. As a member of the board at Genesee Land Trust, Tom serves on Finance Committee and the Urban Initiatives Committee and he  helps with many special events.
     
Nancy Goodman Torpey    
 

Nancy is a retired Xerox Corporation physicist.  She grew up on Long Island but now lives in Webster with her husband, Peter and children, Allison and Brian. She has always loved nature and resonates with the Genesee Land Trust’s approach to preserving and protecting it.  She enjoys the outdoors including gardening, jogging, walking, bicycling and hiking. She joined the Board in 2005 and chairs the Land Management Committee and is a member of the Urban Initiative Committee.  In addition, she volunteers to teach science lessons in the local elementary school through a Xerox-sponsored program and as a reader for WXXI's Reachout Radio reading service for the print impaired.  At Genesee Land Trust, Nancy chairs the Land Management Committee and serves on the Urban Initiative Committee.
