 (c) Nigel Kent

Size:

69.4 acres

Location:

Town of Webster, Monroe County

Description:

Old growth forest of oak, hickory and hemlock, some estimated to be over 350 years old.

History:

In 2006,Thomas and Georgia Gosnell donated a conservation easement along Lake Road to Genesee Land Trust as part of a larger project of the Trust for Public Land and the Town of Webster. Owned by the Gosnell family since 1882, Big Woods, "a rare jewel" in this region, has trees with girth several feet around, gnarled roots and well textured trunks. The Gosnells have long recognized the importance of these woods and have maintained them with as little interference as possible.

Now the Big Woods are a part of the Town of Webster's Gosnell Big Woods Preserve and can be enjoyed public!
