| Genesee Land Trust
joined with members from the Genesee Valley Organic Community
Supported Agriculture to preserve over 115 acres of prime
farmland that has generated healthy food for generations.
The Trust owns the land and has a long-term lease with the
Peacework Farm (currently Elizabeth Henderson, Greg Palmer and
Ammie Chickering) to keep the land in production.
Peacework Farm has been partnering with the GVOCSA to provide
sustainably grown organic food to over 250 families who live
in of Rochester to Newark and many places in between.
A portion of the farmland had been
leased by Doug and Becky Kraai to Elizabeth and Greg since
1998. When Becky realized she would need to sell the
entire "Humbert Farm", members of GVOCSA and Genesee
Land Trust launched the effort to preserve the land in farming
and wildlife habitat. The result has been a unique partnership
between the Trust, the GVOCSA and the farmers of Peacework
Farm. This partnership will keep the land in the hands of
farmers dedicated to managing the land for generations to
come while creating a beautiful nature preserve for all to
enjoy. |
