From Pole to Pole:  Our Planet's Birding Extremes

March 18, 2010

FREE AND WONDERFUL LECTURE will take place at the Penfield Library on Thursday, March25th at the Penfield Library.  Presented GENESEE LAND TRUST and THE PENFIELD LIBRARY:"From Pole To Pole: Our Planet's Birding Extremes from Antarctica to the Arctic Circle "- a lecture and slide show by Donna and Don Traver of Webster: Thursday, March 25, 7 p.m. at the Penfield Library located at 1985 Baird Road in Penfield.

In this Penfield Library program, the Traver's will share their adventures observing Andean Condors in Southern Chile's fabled National Park, Torres del Paine, to the polar bears and walrus above the Arctic Circle on Norway's Spitsbergen, with stops at Emperor Penguin Colony in Antarctica, then a detour to India to look for tigers and elephants, followed by a look at the vast sea bird colonies in the British Isles.  This program will provide an overview of places and habitats that the adventuring traveler may consider visiting to observe the diverse and threatened wildlife of our planet.

Genesee Land Trust members, Donna and Don Traver spent their professional careers as public school educators in Pittsford and Webster.  While traveling North American in their Volkswagen Camper, they became avid birders who have seen over half of the earth's bird species. The Travers have now completed their quest to see a member of every one of the world's 204 families of birds taking them to all seven continents and ending the journey in Sierra Leone, West Africa in 2006. Perennial teachers, the Travers take great joy in sharing their global wildlife experiences with the public. "From Pole to Pole" is a Penfield Library program which is free and open to the public but requires registration through the library. You may call the library at (585) 340-8720 or go online to http://evanced.info/penfield/evanced/eventcalendar.asp For more information email Margaret Potter, Genesee Land Trust at (585) 256-2130.
