Genesee Land Trust Raises More Than $24,000 At Anniversary Party
November 25, 2009
Sandra Frankel, Town of Brighton Supervisor, spoke emotionally about the help she received from the then fledgling land preservation organization when the campaign to save Corbett’s Glen was begun. That help meant the nature park, home to Post Card Falls, would continue to be enjoyed by residents from all over the Rochester area. Since that time, Supervisor Frankel and the Town of Brighton have maintained a strong partnership with the Trust and on November 14th, Frankel read a proclamation saying that day to be Genesee Land Trust Day in Brighton.
Also speaking at the event, which took place at Artisanworks on Blossom Road, was Mayor Robert J. Duffy. Genesee Land Trust and the City of Rochester have and continue to be partners on the Trust’s Connecting Nature to the City Intiative which includes the Conkey Corner Park and El Camino. The mayor spoke of the importance of the greening of the city and that Genesee Land Trust was the natural choice as one of the partners to help with that important work.
Rev. Ronald House, representing County Executive, Maggie Brooks, read from a framed proclamation from Executive Brooks praising the local non-profit for its important work of saving special habitats like parts of Braddock Bay and Big Woods in Webster. And Congresswoman Louise Slaughter sent a congratulatory letter in honor of 20 years in which the Trust has “displayed tremendous leadership for Rochester in making our community special.”
Nearly 150 people attended the event that include a silent and live auction and music by graduate students of the Eastman School who lead the evening in a rousing rendition of “This Land is Your Land”.
Genesee Land Trust proudly announces that the evening was successful in every respect, including the garnering of over $23,000 to support its preservation work. It thanks all the honored guests, all the members who volunteered to help prepare for the fundraiser and who worked that evening and to its membership of nearly 1000 families and friends from far and wide who have made these two decades of land conservation very successful ones. Gay Mills, executive director, thanked all on behalf of Genesee Land Trust.”
