Genesee Land Trust Presents a Free lecture/Slide Show at Greece Public Library On April 6th

Purple Martins’ Majesty: Attracting and Managing This Unusual Bird,” Tuesday, April 6 at 7 p.m. at  Greece Public Library, located at 2 Vince Tofany Boulevard, Greece, 14612: Rick Marx, advisory board member/ volunteer, will present a lecture and Power Point  showing his work at establishing nesting colonies of these interesting birds. Rick’s birding interests have taken him around the globe.  Be prepared for great information, photos and Q & A. Richard A. Marx Bio 

Rick is a Senior Environmental Engineer with the law firm Nixon Peabody LLP.  He serves on the Board of Directors for the Genesee Land Trust and the Braddock Bay Bird Observatory.  Rick was also instrumental in the formation of the Rochester Peregrine Falcon Project and was one of the founders and Vice President and Treasurer for the New York River Otter Project, Inc., both of which were species reintroduction projects.  He is currently leading up the Purple Martin Conservation Project in conjunction with the Genesee Valley Audubon Society which is focused on establishing properly managed nesting colonies of Purple Martins on Lake Ontario, Canandaigua Lake, Honeoye Lake and Hemlock Lake.  He also manages his own 95 acre property for habitat diversity with an emphasis on nesting songbirds.  His work has included design and construction of wetlands and the construction and installation of more than 100 nest boxes and structures for songbirds, waterfowl, birds of prey and bats.  Birding has been a lifelong passion and he has had the opportunity to bird watch throughout North America, Mexico and the Caribbean, Great Britain, as well as Brazil and Bolivia.  Rick has prepared a PowerPoint presentation that will focus on his work with Purple Martin's and is titled "Attracting and Managing the Purple Martin".
