Habitat Garden Groups Takes A Field Trip To Penfield On February
28th
Genesee Land Trust’s Habitat Gardening Group that usually
meets at the Brighton Memorial Garden will take a field trip to
Penfield on February 28th.
On Tuesday, February 28, at 7PM, the Land Trust will host a lecture
called “Growing Native Plants for Butterflies and Birds”
given by local naturalist, garden designer and Land Trust member,
Carol Southby. Ms. Southby will talk about design features of a
habitat garden which is gardening to attract wildlife. The lecture
will take place at the Ruth Braman Room of the Penfield Public Library.
Southby, a popular teacher and designer, specializing in perennials
and wildlife gardens, is also the president of the Rochester Butterfly
Club as well as being a member of the Habitat Gardening Club.
Southby says “Our native plants and wildlife evolved together
over thousands of years. Much of the wildlife depends totally on
particular native plants for survival. Others are opportunists and
able to use a wider range of plants.”
The lecture will highlight some of the best native plants for garden
use to attract butterflies and birds. Southby will take questions
from those attending this free public lecture and she will show
the exquisite nature photographs taken by Southby and her husband,
David. Club members look forward to this special event and the public
is invited.
This Genesee Land Trust event will take place at the Ruth Braman
Room of the Penfield Library located at 1985 Baird Road, off of
Route 441 in the town of Penfield. For more information or questions
about Growing Native Plants for Butterflies and Birds, please call
Genesee Land Trust at 256-2130 and visit www.geneseelandtrust.org.
