McNabb

Location: Town of Mendon, Monroe County

Size: 48 acres

Description: Active farmland and mature woods along Irondequoit Creek

History: This conservation easement was donated by Dr. and Mrs. Neal McNabb in 2002. Over the years, the McNabbs created a woodland sanctuary for birds and native wildflowers and worked with a local farmer to greatly improve the soil on the tillable portion of their land. "Both Neal and I believe in the concept of stewardship," says Ann McNabb. "Being good stewards of our land and preserving it creatively is important to us. Every day we see development pressures intensifying, and so we decided to act before it is too late."

"We followed the work of land trusts in other areas of the East, and we’re impressed with the Genesee Land Trust," says Neal. "Its approach is low-key, thoughtful, and thorough."
