Goodell Farm

Location: Town of Manchester, Ontario County

Size: 279 acres

Description: Goodell Farms is a beef and cash grain operation, growing corn, wheat, soybeans, hay, and oats.  The bulk of the grain grown on the farm are for cattle feed.  Goodell Farms markets 40 head of beef cattle each year with most cattle sold at the Finger Lakes Livestock Auction and some private sales. Grain production averages 150 bushels/acre of corn, 45 bushels/acre of soybeans, 60 bushels per acres of wheat, 70 bushels per acre of oats, and 4 tons of dry hay per acre. Any excess grain not used for cattle feed is sold to Howlett Farms.

The Goodell’s will now be able to retire and sell their farm to the young couple, Mike and Julia, who will continue on the farm operation. The Goodell’s met Mike and Julia on the Finger Lakes Farm Finder website, a predecessor to the Farmland for a New Generation New York website, a part of the Regional Navigator program.

History: The farm has been in the family since 1908 when the Bill Goodell’s grandfather purchased the farm. For the last 4 generations, the farm has been a small family operation.
