Stonecrop Farm

Location: Town of Henrietta, Monroe County

Size: 57 acres

Description: Stonecrop Farm is a 57 acre pasture-based certified organic livestock farm owned by Greg and Jenney Hartt. The farm is entirely operated by the couple who raise livestock - laying hens and turkeys - for direct to consumer retail sale. Stonecrop Farm raises approximately 150-200 turkeys per year, all for slaughter. They also have a year-round laying flock of 125 hens.

The near term goal of Stonecrop Farm is to grow production to meet the carrying capacity of the land while ensuring sustainability as it relates to soil and animal health. Greg and Jenney are committed to their business mode of direct retail sales to maintain high profitability. If it becomes financially advantageous, they would consider expanding onto neighboring properties.

Stonecrop Farm is the only certified organic livestock farm in Monroe County. Greg and Jenney are both very active in the Rochester organic farming community. Greg served on the advisory committee for the Henrietta Farmland Protection Plan. Additionally, the farm received the Henrietta Architectural Heritage Award for saving and relocating a ~190 year old timber farm barn to the property.

History: Greg Hartt was about halfway through a chemistry PhD program when he realized something… his true calling was as an organic farmer. He completed his PhD and immediately started training on other farms. In 2016, he and his wife, Jenney, bought the 57-acre property in Henrietta which is now home to Stonecrop Farm.

When the couple first purchased the land, it was both vacant and neglected, as it had not been farmed in over 15 years. Since owning the land, Greg and Jenney have grazed livestock on all of the fields and in large sections of the woods in order to remove invasive species, promote soil fertility, and encourage pasture growth.
