Deer in the Garden - Cancelled

  • Brighton Memorial Library 2300 Elmwood Ave Rochester, NY, 14618 United States (map)

Naturalist and garden designer Carol Southby will talk about ways to cope with deer in our gardens and the impacts of deer on our natural areas. By choosing plants that deer do not like, growing fewer of those that they prefer, and using various techniques to protect your favorite plants from damage, you can still have attractive plantings in your yard.

For over twenty years, Carol has watched groups of up to eight deer in her backyard in Penfield. She developed this talk from her observations of their browse preferences on trees, shrubs, perennials, and annuals in her own yard and in several other gardens adjacent to natural areas.

You can view Carol’s garden on this summer’s Backyard Habitat Tour!
