Work Party: Macyville Woods Nature Preserve

  • Cornwall Preserve 7474 Seaman Street Sodus Point, NY, 14555 United States (map)

Join Genesee Land Trust for a weekend work party at Macyville Woods Nature Preserve in Sodus Point. This 34-acre nature preserve on Lake Ontario and Sodus Bay offers a shaded hiking trail and is home to a number of birds and other wildlife. Volunteers will be focusing efforts on invasive Japanese wineberry, picking the edible berries the plant produces, then pulling the plant for disposal. It was introduced to North America in the 1890s as breeding stock for native raspberries and although invasive, is quite delicious.

All ages and ability levels are encouraged to sign up; there will be a job for everyone. Please dress appropriately for working outdoors (sturdy footwear, long pants, sun protection). We suggest you bring a water bottle and work gloves. Tools and snacks will be provided.

To attend you must sign up below. Please do not attend if you are not feeling well. An email reminder will be sent the week of the event with directions and parking details. Contact Kevin Farrell at kfarrell@geneseelandtrust.org with questions.

In accordance with the latest CDC guidance, masks are optional for fully vaccinated attendees. Please continue to be respectful of other attendees and social distance where it’s possible to do so. We know there are varying levels of comfort with these changes and ask for your patience while we navigate this transition together. We will also practice social distancing while together.
