This month Trail Keepers visit Island Cottage Woods Preserve in Greece. We’ll focus mostly on mulching the trails to provide a smooth, dry walking path. Depending on the number of volunteers we may also tackle some trail trimming tasks and hunt for tree tubes that need to be removed from young trees. Island Cottage Woods Preserve is an excellent spot to look for migratory birds that are resting and refueling for their nightly flights south this time of year. Tall boots and bug spray recommended!
All ages and ability levels are encouraged to sign-up; there will be a job for everyone. Please dress appropriately for working outdoors (sturdy footwear, long pants, sun protection). We suggest you bring a water bottle and work gloves. Tools and snacks will be provided.
To attend you must sign-up below. Please do not attend if you are not feeling well. There are 15 spots available for this event. An email reminder will be sent the week of the event with directions and parking details. Contact Will Macaluso at wmacaluso@geneseelandtrust.org with questions.
About Trail Keepers
Trail Keepers is a volunteer group that gets together each month to work on trail and habitat improvement projects on Genesee Land Trust nature preserves. If you’re interested in volunteering outside, picking up some outdoor skills, and meeting others who care about the environment—Trail Keepers is the opportunity for you.
