10/6 Update:

We are working with the city to identify some additional fall tour opportunities for the people specifically on this wait list. If you would like a chance to attend one of these - please join the waitlist to get updates. We are discussing equitable ways to offer these future spaces to you - given the size of the list, we won't be able to safely host enough additional walks to meet demand this year BUT we're also working on more tours in 2024. We appreciate your patience and will be in touch when the next step details have been worked out. Thank you!

EVENT IS FULL - you can sign up for the wait list for any tickets that open, and to get updated on future walk dates.

Event details:

Take a rare tour of the historic Second Erie Canal Aqueduct / Rochester Subway while learning more about the history of Rochester, the Genesee River, and ongoing initiatives like the Aqueduct Reimagined project.

We’ll gather at the Kusler-Cox Auditorium on the 3rd floor of the Rundel Library (115 South Ave). Please arrive between 10:15 and 10:30 to check in. Timed tours will begin by 10:50 and go in 3 groups.

Parking is available along the street and the South Ave or Court Street parking garages. City buses 12, 13, and 14 stop in front of the library.

This walk will go underground to see the unique graffiti art, the canal bed, and the Johnson Seymour mill race where the water runs under the library.

This walk includes stairs, narrow spaces, and uneven dirt surfaces. A portion of the walk could be very dark.

This event is for people ages 16+. Anyone aged 16-17 must be accompanied by an adult. All participants must wear closed-toe shoes and bring a flashlight. A cell phone light could be used but won’t be as effective.

Following the walk, we’ll return to the library for light refreshments and a Q&A with city officials.
