Join Genesee Land Trust for a weekend work party at Macyville Woods Nature Preserve in the Village of Sodus Point. Macyville Woods, offers 34 acres of woodlands and wetlands nearby Lake Ontario and Sodus Bay. We’ll start the day with some berry picking. Wineberries are a non-native raspberry relative, originally imported to cross with our native raspberries to improve their flavor. Wineberries are very sweet and soft; excellent for snacking, pies, or jams. After picking our fill we will work to remove as many plants as we can from the preserve to stop the spread of this non-native species.
All ages and ability levels are encouraged to sign-up; there will be a job for everyone. Please dress appropriately for working outdoors (sturdy footwear, long pants, sun protection). We suggest you bring a water bottle and work gloves. Tools and snacks will be provided.
To attend you must sign up below. Please do not attend if you are not feeling well. An email reminder will be sent the week of the event with directions and parking details. Contact Will Macaluso at wmacaluso@geneseelandtrust.org with questions.
About Work Parties
Work Parties are weekend volunteer events where new and experienced volunteers work with Genesee Land Trust staff on trail and habitat improvement projects. If you’ve got some time on the weekends and an interest in giving back to your local conservation lands we invite you to join in on the work party fun.
