Eagle Scout Makes Creative Birding Signs At Two Preserves

Breanna Shaver has spent three years working with Genesee Land Trust on her Eagle Scout project - and now it’s ready for everyone to enjoy!

Members of Williamson Scout Troops 6125 and 125 created 16 colorful illustrations and descriptions about local birds, then designed the 2 news signs above. Thanks to 16-year-old Brea and her friends, Cornwall Preserve in Pultneyville and Eva and Harlan Braman Preserve in Webster each have these new signs about grassland birds and wetland birds.

“I picked this project because I wanted to do something creative and different that was also nature related, and it checked all those boxes,” Brea says. “I learned that when leading a group of people, you need to be very specific about what you want done and how you want it done or the people may not do it correctly.”

Thank you, Brea and friends!

Are you artistic and/or like building projects?

There are many volunteer project ideas that could improve more nature preserve trails, like building benches, native plant and animal illustrations or sculptures, and making bird wingspan displays. Please contact Preserve Manager Will Macaluso for more information about getting involved: wmacaluso@geneseelandtrust.org (585) 450-3937.
