A Record Year Protecting Local Working Farms

This year Genesee Land Trust permanently protected a record-setting 8 working farms totaling 1,748 acres of farmland across Monroe, Wayne, Ontario, and Cayuga counties! That includes our very first farm protected in Sterling, NY.

Did you know our region is #3 in the world for food-growing soil? And once it’s developed into housing, it’s gone forever. Saving local world-class fields means they’ll keep growing apples, wheat, and so much more for millions of people today, and for countless generations to come. It also supports local businesses, preserves our region’s farming heritage, and protects thousands of local jobs.

Every farmland protection project takes about 3,500 staff hours and 3 to 5 years to complete - and it wouldn’t happen without strong community support.

Thank you to the passionate, patient farmers that worked with us to protect their land; to our talented, dedicated staff; and to everyone that helps make this critical work possible. And an extra thank you to all who say “Yes!” and make a gift to land conservation that will last forever!
