Join us for a guided tour along the Genesee River through Genesee Valley Park on October 29. In honor of the Olmsted Bicentennial, Genesee River Alliance has partnered with JoAnn Beck, Chairperson of the Rochester Olmsted Parks Alliance, to bring you the next Mile-A-Month walk.
This park was part of the original municipal parks system of Rochester and was built as designed by Frederick Law Olmsted in 1890. Genesee Valley Park’s beautiful pastoral landscape is true to the Olmsted plan and parts of the original park remain intact. Not only will we see vibrant fall colors, but this park features the unusual intersection of the Genesee River and the Erie Canal.
We’ll walk west to the river, then south across the pedestrian bridge over the canal, along Red Creek and back to the shelter to complete a 1-mile loop. This is a guided family-friendly walk. All ages and abilities are encouraged to join us. Strollers and pets are also welcomed. Light refreshments will be provided at the end of the walk.
There are two start times, one at 10am and the other at 11:30am. Each walk will last approximately 60 minutes, and there are 25 spots available for each tour. Parking is available and we will meet at the Roundhouse Shelter on Moore Road.
UPDATE: We currently only have spaces open for the 11:30 walk time.
Pre-registration required.
